Super exciting stuff! After 2 long months…my Charleston bedroom is finally finished! I find it exhilarating to design a new room every time I move. I moved to a new home almost every single year of college, which can be exhausting and come off as an inconvenience. Despite dreading the manual labor which comes along with moving, I would get myself motivated by designing a different room each year. I challenged myself by reusing as many pieces as possible. A lot of the canvases have been repainted over time, along with the lamps and furniture pieces being repainted, and accessories have been reused and placed in different areas of the room depending on the new color scheme. Below, I have attached photographs of a couple different rooms I designed while in school.
I had been conduction the design of my post-grad Charleston room for quite some time. I wanted it to have the beach sense of my 3rd year room from school, without lacking the color of my 4th year room. The main focal feature of the room is the intricate collection of photographs framed on the wall to the right once you walk in, above the dresser. I had been collecting these photographs as I wanted this wall to set the mood of the room. The room is to inspire the soul to be outgoing, courageous, creative, vulnerable to what love life has to offer, and chasing possibilities in every aspect of opportunity. The photographs are daring and disobedient. I wanted to bring the freedom and simplistic habits of a summer along the Mediterranean coast to life.
Moving on to the rest of the room - I picked the color “swimming” to paint both the dresser and night stand. The bed is a mauve blush color to mimic the pinky color of sand often found along Caribbean islands. I layered circular rattan woven rugs to add a collective bohemian effect, matching the folded bamboo lamp. Placed perfectly beside a salt lamp which contains benefits when it comes to problematic allergy symptoms. Due to their ability to cleanse the surrounding air of dust particles, mold and mildew; which ultimately defuses digital haze and boosts restful sleep.
Moving on to the wall opposite from the photograph collage - A full length mirror was necessary. Beyond the mirror, I needed shelving space to house books along with my chinoiserie collection which I have inherited overtime. I had ordered floating shelves, but they did not carry the weight I needed them to. I got the idea to hang them from the ceiling with rope. In the midsts of drilling holes in the corners and picking rope out, I thought how cute they would look with paintings on the outside facing edges. This project came together even better than I could have ever imagined! Functional as well as unique! Surrounding the hanging shelves are hats and other macrame and rattan woven shelves, which hold little nicknacks such as sea shells, mushroom candles and succulents.

The frames were collected from GoodWill and Facebook market place, along with the colorful plush cushion, nightstand, dresser, and green lamp. I love collecting sustainable items which are unique and add characteristic stories to any room I design. Hope you enjoy this as inspiration to bring life to your space as well. Your bedroom is the space to which you spend the most time in your day to day life - why not make it feel as if it was your very own little oasis?
