Design Work.
During the summer of 2021 I had the privilege of working as a design and coordination intern for Ooh! Events, Wedding Planning of Charleston, SC. Now known as Curated Events.
This experience could not have been more of a substantial moment in my pre-career endeavors while in college. I learned more than I could have ever yearned for. Growing up in Richmond, VA, my family and I traveled often to Charleston, SC. What a beautiful destination with so much culture, gorgeous architecture, amazing dining options, and delightful weather. It was ultimately one of the most perfectly fitting places I have lived thus far and I reminisce on that summer quite frequently.
Starting out as an intern, I was determined to show my worth. I was motivated and dedicated to going over and beyond with given tasks. Quickly, my coworkers and managers began to trust me with design consultations and client communications. Throughout the beginning portion of the summer I found that the design and logistical planning portion of the wedding planning process would become my strongest suit. I appreciated getting to connect with the clients on a deeper level, help bring the visions to life, and walk them through the cohesive wedding planning process.
By July of 2021 I was able to ecstatically accept a full time position with Ooh! Events as an assistant designer and planner. I specialized in building the brand-to-client relationship with new brides as they started the planning process. Being able to practice my communication skills during this time was a pivotal experience I was able to apply to my college degree.
Many told me during my time with Ooh! Events and many have told me after, “once you’ve worked in weddings, you’re officially able to take on anything that life throws at you.” Well gosh if that’s true! I felt like I had gained a girl scout badge from life itself. I have been able to walk away from this experience confident and motivated to take on any and all challenges, curve balls, or undertakings life or any future positions throw my way.
All photos depicted on this page are of weddings in which I had a part in, whether it be designing, detailed planning, or coordinating. The first set of wedding photos are from my very first wedding. This event occurred only 4 days after moving to Charleston and I mainly took part in the coordination. The second set of wedding photos was one of my favorite designs of any weddings I worked. Once again, I was mainly involved in coordination, while also filling in for some planning roles. The third set of photos was for Meredith Massey, a bride to which I was granted the privilege of building the brand-to-client relationship with. I grew to deeply care for Meredith through this unique opportunity, and still to this day think about her as well as her special day. I was tasked with beginning and orchestrating the personal design consultations, hearing what Meredith wanted and figuring out how this was going to be possible to create. I also personally reached out to vendors, set up vendor-to-client consultations, designed her registration, website, and card-stock in full. This can be discovered through the wedding website linked, as well as the card-stock images included below. The fourth wedding depicted was for a client where I was part of building the initial brand-to-client relationship. This included being a part of design meetings as well as coordinating initial tentative planning schedules. This client was also near and dear to my heart for we had previously met through my side hustle at the time, which was working for a local surf Co. on Sullivans Island, named Bennie & Coco (images depicted on home page). Finally, the fifth wedding was one where I mainly had a hand in planning and coordinating. I was grateful for the opportunity to also click well with this client and it was such a pleasure to be a part of her very special day. Throughout all of these experiences, I learned just how important it was to be detailed oriented and conscious. I will carry on such valuable life skills, applicable for all careers and industries, thanks to this experience!
