Saint Laurent Spring 2023 Ready-to-Wear
Creative director Anthony Vaccarello presented Saint Laurent’s spring-summer collection at Paris Fashion Week. The runway was specifically centered in the Jardins du Trocadero and Fontaine de Varsovie. Perfectly lined rows of black wooden seats, soft golden light, an orchestra playing, and of course, an iconic backdrop of the Eiffel Tower. Vaccarello is an Italian fashion designer known for creating a capsule collection for Versace in 2014. It was announced in 2016 that Saint Laurent would be stealing Vaccarello from Versace, and appointing him as creative director. Since then, Vaccarello has been dedicated to showcasing the city of Paris in the usual Saint Laurent form.
Square Magazine.
While a student at the University of Mississippi, I had the pleasure to be a member of an exquisite fashion magazine. Completely and totally student-ran, the university affiliated magazine was one of the most positive experiences of my college career.
My experience with Square Magazine started during my second year at the University. I had encountered Elena Ossoski, who later became the Editor and Chief of the entirety of the magazine. Ossoski wrote an article of the blog which I was operating at that time, The Amazon Shopaholic. That spotlight article is linked above. Meeting Ossoski, I realized how much my life in Oxford, and especially my academic career, was lacking a fashion/apparel and design aspect. I quickly knew that I needed to incorporate an outlet into my time as a student to creatively run wild in the fashion industry. I was a Junior when I officially became a member under the Chief of Business, who was Kate Abraham at the time. What a delightful experience it was having the opportunity to practice my event planning skills, in a marketing/PR stance. Every year, Square Magazine releases a print edition during the Spring semester. That Spring, I had the pleasure of being one of the coordinators stances on the business team (made up of only four people under the Chief of Business) who coordinated and marketed the event to publicize the print release.
The next year, I was grateful to receive a Chief Officer position as Casting Director. As Casting Director, I was completely in charge of finding and selecting the models for all of the Square Magazine photo shoots throughout the Fall 2022 - Spring 2023 school year. The main skill I took away from this leadership role was learning how to collaborate with your team and coworkers, which was probably what I appreciated most from my time operating this position. It was completely necessary that I would collaborate with both of our Directors who were in charge of creatively designing, coordinating, and helping me operate the logistics of the photo shoots. I was mainly in collaboration with Kaitlyn Steinroeder and Sheridan Mark, who both held positions as Creative Planner Directors.
My experience working both along side, and as I held positions of leadership throughout Square Magazine were extremely positive. I believe that the skills I took from this role have strengthened not only my greater appreciation for not only the fashion industry, but especially the fashion world of publishing -
I’d like to go out of my way to take the opportunity to in particularly highlight my gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate two of my great passions - writing and fashion. What an honor to say I have been officially published in a print fashion magazine. Not only do I have a greater passion for writing (especially in a PR sense) but to also be able to write about fashion. Words colliding! What a pleasure it was, and I will walk with gratitude towards Square Magazine for the rest of time.
